The company’s history
Cognis was founded in 1999, when it became an operationally independent business unit, as a chemical division from Henkel KGaA. The process of consolidation and growth of the new company took place in 2001 with the acquisition of Cognis by a group of three investors: Permira, GS Capital Partners and Schroder Ventures.

The Brazilian affiliate
Founded in 1958, the production site and administrative department of Cognis Brazil is located on a 300,000 square meter premises in Jacareí (SP), around 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the capital of São Paulo, on the side of President Dutra Highway. Furthermore, Cognis has a head office in São Paulo (SP). Cognis South America also encompasses the affiliates in Argentina, Chile and Colombia, all managed by Cognis Brazil.
